News Project Marvel

Looks like former SA mayor Ron Nirenberg is going to defeat Peter Sakai for County Judge. Nirenberg was a big driving force behind Project Marvel and was still a huge supporter once he left office. The vote likely wouldn’t have been as close as it was had Nirenberg been in office as opposed to anti marvel Ortiz Jones. This probably will help make future negotiations in setting up the arena go smoother now that a huge Spurs/Project Marvel supporter is back in a position of power in SA.

Well, are the scrapped/paused/on-hold things on the second slide true or false? Seems like kind of a big deal.

I don't know about The Current or the writer, since I don't live in SA anymore... but these sources seem to corroborate the main points in the second slide... the good news is that the arena itself seems a go. Typical of SA politics to fumble the ball on everything else though :st-lol:

Months ago, they said the land bridge wasn't going to happen. I'm not sure how this is news.

Since shortly after it passed they have been scrapping things left and right. Very similar to how the current arena was built all this promise and then everything is scrapped except things related to the arena. I am guessing the main things built will be the spurs arena the parking garage and the smaller arena. parking garage might be the next thing to go though.

Same thing in austin with the 35 cap and stich to bury i35. its not going to happen anymore.

you''ll be lucky if you get a shack and an outhouse now.

When was this announced? Thought they were already tearing down old buildings under the upper deck?

Spurs are a day late and $1 billion short. They should've tried this in the Biden administration when the government was handing out truck loads of money to cities.

I read from local news a story that they can either build one small part or go into debt to build the original vision. So yes they will do something to 35 but not the grand vision of a new urban park they promised

My assumption this is largely Karlis being an asshole piece of shit trying to be someone he isnt together with Jones fucking things up and saying, see!!! I was right! I was right! Because she is stonewalling and getting in the way of everything behind the scenes.

Oh I didn't realize it was only 800 million that was passed. Yeah, well, 800 million doesn't buy you much in the way of infrastructure these days so yeah I am not surprised they aren't doing the land bridge and other aspects of that. But that sucks because the land bridge is really important for it. If I was an SA Voter I would feel a way about this, but I would also have thought 800 million for all of that was a pipe dream.

Yeah, I don't think they realize how important the land bridge is to that project.

Supposed to be a joint venture between San Antonio, Bexar County, and the Spurs. If I remember right it was 800M from the city, 500M from the Spurs, 300M from the county, and the Spurs paying for cost overruns.
