SA metro area is 10 times the population of Laredo. What you "feel" is wrong. There's no objective argument to the population and tax base.the fact that you dont get the comparison shows you too are speaking from yr ass. SA is a small town despite the massive size. It feels small town compared to every other TX city including the one 60mi up north. It feels old and run down.
I really don't know yr agenda , are you just here to shit on SA and blast "IM SMARTER THAN 95% of posters" ?
Didn't the Spurs already say they'd handle any cost overrun?SA metro area is 10 times the population of Laredo. What you "feel" is wrong. There's no objective argument to the population and tax base.
People should know exactly what they are voting for, the cost, and who handles the eventual cost overrun. But they won't. You'll bad mouth any politicians that try to push back on the city getting screwed, call them communist or any myriad of other terms you know nothing about, and proceed to get bent over by billionaires again and again.
Cities could get better deals on these things, and more out of them, if the electorate was educated and motivated to know exactly what they're getting if they vote yes. Yet they never are and continue to vote with fear and emotion.
Remember the late 90s and the whole "new Spurs arena will revitalize the east side with growth and entertainment" bullshit that was sold to us? I was in SA back then. I remember.

it’ll never be enough for these kind of people.Didn't the Spurs already say they'd handle any cost overrun?
This vote is for money that the City of San Antonio would never ever ever be able to get their hands on for any general revenue funds.SA metro area is 10 times the population of Laredo. What you "feel" is wrong. There's no objective argument to the population and tax base.

Part of the disaster is the Alamo restoration project imo; sucks now but long-term it'll be great (might even get National Historic Park status). That said it did shutter a lot of popular bars/attractions. RIP Moses Roses tbh. This vote is for money that the City of San Antonio would never ever ever be able to get their hands on for any general revenue funds.
The City of San Antonio has never actually funded an arena for the Spurs.
Look at entertainment districts that have worked, this one is modeled after the ones that have worked. This is what the future is for this city. And its well past due. Downtown is a fucking disaster.

guys, i think we found the SA mayor burner account here...SA metro area is 10 times the population of Laredo. What you "feel" is wrong. There's no objective argument to the population and tax base.

gina will stall and muddy things up as best she can for the remainder of her term. this is her “stick it to le rich billionaires!!1” moment she’ll use to try to grift her way to senator and beyondThe voter turnout for this is going to be small as the polls are suggesting, at this point anything can happen. What happens if the propositions are turned down during this vote? From what I've gathered, I could be wrong, but this current deal would be squashed and a new deal would be worked by Gina and the city council.
If she torpedoes this, she wouldn’t be able to win an election for dog-catcher.gina will stall and muddy things up as best she can for the remainder of her term. this is her “stick it to le rich billionaires!!1” moment she’ll use to try to grift her way to senator and beyond
The Spurs would have to agree to work with her, which I don’t see, since this is the best offer they will ever make, and she’s opposed this at every turn with ignorant takes. The voter turnout for this is going to be small as the polls are suggesting, at this point anything can happen. That’s actually pretty desperate messaging
This twat strikes again
because most fat americans can‘t comprehend the financing. They are still thinking the arena will be built from their hard earned tax money which is not the case.
here's one of themI dont live in SA so I dont care, but for those of you that do, if you think your taxes won't rise eventually to fund a large part of this you're naive and delusional. You the taxpayer in SA will foot the bill for most of it, regardless of the bullshit the billionaires try to sell you.
The exact deal and language of it should be completely disclosed to the tax payer before there's any vote on this, but that won't happen. Let's face it, 95+ percent of the electorate are ignorant morons who wouldn't comprehend the back handed ways in which the Spurs and city are going to fuck you over on this.
Up here where I live in the metroplex they're talking about creating a new stadium for the Dallas Stars in my city. I'm a big Stars fan, but I don't want to foot the bill for a stadium when their current one in downtown Dallas is great already. But the billionaire owner wants to also own and control all of the entertainment venues around the stadium, and he can't in downtown Dallas. So he'll find a way to fuck us citizens out of the money to make it happen. Because "we the people" are mostly fucking morons.
Actually, it can’t. There are very narrow uses for this kind of funding, and those ain’t it. It’s for infrastructure.I want the Spurs to stay in San Antonio but I also want the city to get the best deal possible.
As far as I understand, the tourism tax money isn't an issue of either give it to the Spurs for the arena or flush it down the toilet. No, no, no.
Now, I'm not saying a lot, perhaps even most, of San Antonians don't have idiotic opinions, they do, but I'm also saying that this tourism tax money could be used for education and other very vital and underfunded "things" - and with the way the winds are blowing, one shouldn't expect state and federal funds to keep everything afloat. We are in a time of severe economic uncertainty in a city with the worst education in the country.
I think acknowledging that when approaching this decision is an honest way to discuss it. For people who don't live here in SA I can see how this wouldn't affect you, but hey, you aren't the one voting.
Just the ramblings of an armchair endocrinologist...

This is the most frustrating thing too; if you’re actually an endocrinologist (meaning baseline level of professionalism/intelligence) and this is your read on the situation imagine the average voter smfhAs I said I'm just an arm chair endocrinologist...I stand corrected. So convention center, tourism, and puppet shows. I expect a damn good puppet show then. Ha
