News Project Marvel

And full disclosure... I don't live in San Antonio and have no plans to visit in a hotel or rent a car any time soon... so it doesn't impact me at all.

I'll also never trust any organization which voluntarily calls themselves "COPS"

Fuck it, I'll still watch Wemby win championships in Seattle or Austin. If San Antonio wants to be cute, they don't need a basketball team.

The Spurs are donating their old practice facility to the city. It's going to be turned into a community center. $10,000,000 investment from the Spurs. Of course, many miserable locals will whine about it being a political move for votes.

What's the vibe like in SA over this? Really hope it passes to secure the Spurs future in SA, but I also understand I'm not a resident anymore so my opinion doesn't matter!

Vibe feels like 55/45 in the no favor tbh.

Early voting, it's not looking good for the new arena. We are notorious for having low voter turnout here which almost always guarantees a win for the opposition. Any local news posting about the propositions 70% of the comments are in opposition of Project Marvel. Just frustrating to say the least.

Basketball arenas should solve poverty? Color me confused.

PS: not an American, I don't have a horse in this race. Just saying it's a weird quote.

I think the framing is that these arenas are often sold to communities as a means of a local economic boom and that it will create good-paying jobs, but in reality, studies have shown that's not really the case. The quote is an extragration ofc.

It’s going to come down to who mobilizes and gets out and votes. It’s all bonds and propositions, no elected officials on the ballot, which always has next to no turn out. I read that after 3 days of early voting only 20,000 votes were cast. Social media comments makes it look like it’s going to fail but 80% of the social media posts are the radicals and crazies posting misinformation and lies and I question how many will even vote. From people I know it’s probably 75-25 for. The no rallies seem to have no one there and the pro rallies seem to be full. Was the same thing in 99 for the arena and it passed fairly easily. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised with any outcome.

I know almost no one voting against it but all the talk I see is No tbh.

I know it also sounds stupid, and shouldn’t have anything to do with it, but I think if the Spurs do well the next couple of weeks it will help a lot. I know three people that were pro arena but didn’t seem terribly motivated to vote who went and voted yes Thursday after wembys big game against dallas

Yeah, I realize, but framing it like that sounds like they're underestimating the reader's intelligence. Just say "didn't contribute to economic growth" or something to that effect, which is what you effectively mean. This happens over here too, BTW, probably to an even larger degree.

It's literally a quote on a social media site, intended to get you to click on an article.
Oh, I'm sorry. I thought it was a social media post by a newspaper, and the headline is what they chose to put there. My bad.

You hear it all the time that every vote matters. But voter turnout is going to be so low it will matter this time. If you live in Bexar county, are on this site, and support the arena you need to go vote bc it’s going to matter. I early voted and it was like 5 minutes in and out.

If you are on this site, live in Bexar county and are a no vote, early voting sucks and you should wait until Nov 5 to vote.
