Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Watch

Agree to the Trade for Greek Freak (top 4 player on the planet now)?

As so often, it's a matter of perspective. If I think that Castle's floor is a rich man's Caruso, then no, I'm not trading him for a player like McDaniels or TMIII. But that is also being VERY high on Castle - or being pretty low on Caruso, who is a decent shooter, a good connector, and (at least on a minute-per-minute basis) probably one of the best and versatile playoff defenders in the league over the last couple of years.

As for Giannis: My take is that neither him nor the Bucks seem hell-bent on making a trade happen right now, so I could easily see nothing happening until the offseason.
Does Caruso guard guys like Derek Queen or Sengün?

Chet made all star and he’s not significantly better than castle on either offence or defence, although I’d admit Chet is better than castle on both right now but Steph can make the all-star team with some improvements in both areas, or a bit more on offence.

Trae Young made it a few times being the opposite of what Castle is (all O, no D, with Castle's O being way better than Trae's D). Scottie Barnes (though in the East) made it twice. Even DeRozan and LaVine made it a few years ago as Bulls (total bull, pun intended). Jarrett Allen made it a few years back as well, being mostly a defensive player.

If looking at West only players, Andrew Wiggins made it a few years back as well, so did Rudy Gobert (better on D, worse on O).

I get your point that offensive players get more love, but it's not impossible if the Spurs are good.

Wiggins was voted in by k pop. Doesn’t really count imo

West just has 1.5x more talent than the East.

I will point out, all of these guys have one specific thing in common that Steph Castle cannot so long as he plays in San Antonio.

Best case scenario would be for Castle not to develop his shot until after his extension is signed at a discount, tbh.
Bringing it down to a ~20% extension instead of rookie max 25% would be huge for us.

Agreed.

Also Spurs should also play some hard ball like OKC did with their guys this summer. Max extensions shouldn’t be given out like candy.

With Minnesota making moves to make a better offer and Miami holding out everyone the might include in their offer....who's your money on here?

MIL really catching a break by MIN backing themselves into a corner with this move, giving the Bucks some extra leverage... if Giannis does go to MIN, a third team might find themselves getting McDaniels for less than 3 FRPs as MIN scrambles to accumulate the picks they need...

Right now betting markets have a 53% chance of a trade, with MIN the leader at 22%. Chicago () and MIA are next at 11%. I usually don't put too much stock in these betting markets, but it's interesting...

^^^Literally as I was typing that, CHI shot up to 14% and MIA down to 10%...

I think its a two team race and I think McDaniel goes somewhere for less than 3 FRP's. I'm not saying it'll be here, but somebody is about to get a deal.

MIN has shot up to 25% on Kalshi since I posted the above... some increased movement on CHI as well... $13.7MM in play on this at Kalshi... lol degen gamblers

Personally, I don't think the Spurs are interested in that price level of shopping right now...
I havent put much thought on the 2027 draft but reading the talks here seems like that’s a bad draft. Plus maybe another pick from a draft far away like a 2030, 2031, etc that I couldnt care less as of the moment.

Just feel like the Spurs are 1 move away from being legit. And/or 1 or 2 injuries away from actually winning this year despite all of our flaws.

I bet a 1st and a swap would be under consideration. Time is running out.
A swap with us would generally be perceived as kind of worthless though, wouldn't it? Unless it's a 2032 or something where there is enough time for variance to kick in.

god i hate how every sports rumor is now attached to kalshi or polymarket or some other gambling bullshit

I like McDaniel but that's a difficult contract to take on long term (26.2, 28, 29.2 after this season). Cost-controlled stretch 4 in an upcoming deep draft for me (Karim Lopez or Hannes Steinbach, for example).

If anything, acquiring future draft capital tops my list - eat your vegetables.
