Giannis just recently said that he will never ask for a trade. Clearly his legacy in the "court of public opinion" matters to him, and I doubt he would suddenly change his mind just because his team got booed when they were blown out.
I would be shocked if there would be a trade now before the February deadline.

I’m ok unloading basically all of our draft capital for a big move at this point.

…but can’t do Harper and Castle.

Spur fan and their obsession with scrub to mid players :st-rollin: I'd trade anyone not named Wemby if Giannis wanted to come here tbh

Spurs would have to trade for a couple of dead-eye shooters if they traded for Giannis tbh. No point in gutting a roster that's only a piece or two (plus playoff experience) away from being a top-tier contender.

tbh if they're moving somebody like Castle for him its basically a wash from a shooting perspective

Assuming its Castle, Barnes, Olynyk, and Sochan they'd prolly need to get someone like AJ Green in the trade to balance out the roster. Even then, I'm firmly in the Castle/Harper are off limits camp tbh.

ive been out on Giannis stuff since approximately 48 hours after the lottery results
I'm still against the move, but what if Giannis initiates it? that post-game convo was too long to wave off.. As the losses pile up things are looking like they will reach a breaking point for the Bucks by the deadline.

To me the team that should jump in is Houston. A combination Amen/Sheppard/Jabari AND an increasingly depreciating Suns picks should do it. Amen will be the hardest sell, but I'm very skeptical of his ceiling.

Giannis on the Rockets presents the same issues as the Spurs, but they're also on a different timeline since they traded for Durant. They'd have to trade Sengun rather than Thompson though tbh.

Yeah, they have more urgency than us. Plus Amen/Sengun are 2-4 years older than Castle and Harper. I would probably do it, tbh. I don't see that that core being a match in the medium term for OKC and Spurs' or god knows which superstar the Lakers steals next.. Their best shot at a ring might be the next 2-3 years with Giannis-KD-Amen/Sengun. foundation.

even in that scenario, you have Fox, Vassell, Champagnie, Giannis, Wemby which is plenty of shooting for the starting 5. the bench shooting would thin out for sure, with Waters getting more minutes and DJG probably getting converted

and shooting aside, the Wemby/Giannis pairing on defense and the glass alone would be enough to be dominant, even if there is clunkiness in the offense

i just think its going to cost more than Castle + salary + picks, which is why im out

:st-lol: if MIL wants more than that they're never trading him. I still stand by that even as is, this team has nowhere near enough shooting to win a series much less win it all tbh. Adding Giannis only mitigates that fact even considering what he would bring elsewhere. I'm also with @Kick-Stand that Wemby and Giannis would overlap too much to maximize the pairing unless elite-level shooting was added which wouldn't happen until the offseason (and would take a year off the contention window).

Wemby clearly asked Giannis for advice on his eurostep if you look at his hand gestures

He doesn’t solve any problems except rebounding, and needs the same spaces on offense as Wemby.

I do think a Giannis for Castle, Barnes, Olynyk, Sochan + picks package makes us better. Shooting in the SL is about the same and rebounding and D is better. Is it worth it? I'm not sure myself. It's an all in move for the next two years and assuming we move the 2027 pick instead of our 2026 swap then it probably changes the way we see this draft. Right now I think we're looking for a high floor PF like Haugh or Lendeborg. If we did this deal we're probably looking for either a shooter like Mullins or a high ceiling sf.

I'm on team Keep Castle, and it's not really close. Somebody said upthread that if we trade for Giannis we'll gut our depth and still be a piece or two short, and I agree; and we'd be flawed in several ways (shooting, salary cap, to name two, and I'd have on court chemistry concerns).

I'd only take him if we don't send any of the core players and he agrees on taking less money so needless to say that it won't happen

I see the Giannis to the Spurs very much like the "Trae to the Spurs" rumors from a couple years ago - very one-sided in that there's a star wanting out of their team and looking for a landing place, and the Spurs would be one of many good places to crash into.

But the fit is not good with our core. I don't see it for the Rockettes either... My bet is he'll be traded to an unexpected team and stay on the East.

The most interesting thing about a potential Giannis to SA deal is it would give the Spurs 48 minutes of having one of the league's most unstoppable forces on the court, and that has value. And that's before you get to the minutes where they would overlap.

It would be interesting to see... but I'd rather see us keep refining the winning formula we've developed rather than experiment on one that may not work.

Hard pass.

This is the networks trying to stir up drama for ratings; Giannis does not make sense on the team composition side we need more 3pt shooting not less. I swear people get infatuated with to many big name players and trading for them is easy with no reality how they fit on the team basketball wise and in this day in age of apron and the need for depth yes hard pass. I been on the bandwagon the Spurs need to upgrade at the margins on this team building around the young guys that gives us a larger window to compete for titles no splash for a big name and give up tons of resources
