Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Watch

Agree to the Trade for Greek Freak (top 4 player on the planet now)?

What a sad offer if so. Those swaps are probably useless.

Guess this apron thing has really messed with people’s minds. We aren’t that far from Bridges netting 4 FRP.
Goodness, thats getting low enough that we could make a competitive offer and keep Harper, Castle, and Fox... insane..

I'm pretty open about my disdain for Antetokounmpo. He'd instantly rise to the top of my most-hated Spurs of all time if they trade for him. So I'm REALLLLY hoping they aren't actually talking with the Bucks. I don't think anything about this year should encourage the Spurs to be trading their depth or future assets for a win-now player. So many fans of other teams are salivating over the idea of a Fox/Giannis/Wemby when the team should be focusing on getting a roster that makes the Fox/Wemby duo work the best and create an environment to develop Castle, Harper and Bryant.

So for me, all firsts and rotation players really aren't on the table. That might change as we approach the deadline. But the team is legit seeing what they have when they're actually letting their guys win. I'm glad the team didn't pull a bigger trigger leading up to this, because we're seeing what Vassell, Champagnie and Johnson actually look like on a serious team, and they look about as good as we could have hoped. It would be nice to see how they and everyone else look in the playoffs before deciding that they aren't good enough.

It's really hard to see the Spurs winning this year, regardless of any trades. The first and second rounds are already realistic goals as is. So they should stick with their plan rather than derailing themselves in hopes they injured stars can carry a depleted roster into the WCF or Finals.
Just out of curiosity, why the disdain? I missed your earlier posting on it. Cliff notes version is OK.

I’m in the “no” camp right now, but curious if there is someone out there that can make the compelling “yes” case (beside the obvious and thin analysis, e.g, he’s a former MVP etc etc)

I'm in the no camp too, but if he pushes for SA and they get desperate enough to throw in Rollins for shooting and would take Devin. Sochan, Olynyk and picks you have to do that right? Maybe you even do it without Rollins and try to pick up a shooter in the buyout market...idk

Spurs should look to get in on any trade they can as a 3rd to get rid of Sochan and land another big.

Unfortunately it looks like Wembanyama is made of glass and Kornet's play style isn't made for 35 min a night.

I'm all for moving Sochan. I think the Atlanta pick swap this year will see a couple Centers on the board at that point that can get minutes right away though.

Agree but all it takes is for one team to go all in. Teams, probably even the Spurs, are all posturing now. But what happens when the Nets say, screw it, here’s our whole cupboard of assets? You know the Nets are thinking it.
What happens is Giannis signals he won't sign an extension and the Nets back off.

My brother in Christ a resetting team selling their best player is not going to throw in their best young player as a sweetener

Thank you. I'll take a look at that. Darn. Projected for two lottery picks right now. Man, they're not even running a lot of high picks right now as it is. Masterful job by Presti who I didn't want the Spurs to let go of back in the day.
All Utah has to do is get into the top 8, one more position from their current 9 spot, and that pick would be deferred. The Clippers pick is probably a goner, though. They’re coming apart at the seams.

Whether Presti is the smartest GM in the league, or just the luckiest, it still makes him among the best.
I will not debate the luck, and he was smart about selling their cap room, even brilliant. The best I can say about the rest is that he was smart enough not to screw the pooch on a couple of gifts from god.

Presti moving off of Paul George coming off his best season by far was masterful. At the time everyone figured he just handed the Clippers a dynasty, crazy how it played out.

George was never as good or as healthy again as he was in that last OKC season.

I realize they'd have to be desperate, Giannis would be pushing it, and we'd have to add another pick, but thats why I followed up with we'd probably do it without him.

I love Giannis but doesn't feel like a Spurs move.. Also he is NOT just hurt now, but he is always on the injury report even when he plays.. Usually it is a knee issue. And he is committed to playing for Greece the next few years so off-season rest is NOT happening either. I think his physical style of play is catching up to him..

Paul George was actually magnificent that season. Russell Westbrook was pretty much known as their best player due to all the triple doubles and league MVP, but PG that season sort went above him IMO. I did follow him as I was a fan of his back in his younger days in Indiana. Looking back, that was his absolute peak. Sorta stopped watching him after he joined the Clippers (not because he joined them, just stopped following the NBA closely around that time).

Right now they have picks 6, 9, 18, 28 😂😂😂

I'm no cap expert but according to CapSheets they are $39m over the 2nd apron if they were to accept all their player options. Just to get under, they would have to decline the Hartenstein, Kendrick Williams, and trade 1-2 of their firsts.

As in Giannis is going to specifically demand rollins is simultaneously traded?

As in he tells Milwaukee I'll only go to SA...and SA tells Milwaukee they'll only do it if they can add shooting (which Rollins brings). IF (i realize its a huge if) that transpired Milwaukee would ask for additional draft compensation etc etc...

I think if Giannis names a team, he has leverage , but they don’t have it to the degree he has. If you start making too many demands, and the offer is shameful, they’ll tell SA to FO, and either trade him for pennys elsewhere, or let him go into unrestricted FA, knowing we likely can’t sign him.

Most likely that's the case, but I'm not asking for Rollins for free.... that said he might not even be worth the extra cost and we might accomplish what we'd need from a shooter in a subsequent move or buy out guy.

He is so beloved in Milwaukee I don't think he is going to play the game of "Get me the hell out of here right now and only to this team" Despite what certain talking ESPN heads may be saying..

It’s just a matter of time before he quietly tells Bucks front office, send me to the Knicks.

It will be a poo-poo platter.
