Player Brian keeps getting it Wright

So, when has that dude ever been healthy?

Fans are always geniuses who will never admit that their ideas were crap. If they had their way we would be sitting on Tidjane Salaun and traded up to take Zaccharie Risacher. They also never admit that even the supposed best front offices don't hit every pick and select duds. That's why it's a draft.

Call me a sniffer. Yall always been dopes who do.
Ok, genius. You’ve been crying about the Fox trade/signing since forever.

Is this team going to keep their own when the bills come due or are they going to go full OKC 2012 Presti level retard?

The main 3 can be kept, but Fox, Vassell, Kornet, etc are going to be guys that could get more money elsewhere

Likely depends on whether the current CBA stays in place.

Yeah,because who needs a 43% 3 ball shooter. Smh.
the 3pt% is fine, but he hasnt been nearly as willing a shooter as they've needed him to be, and hasn't provided anything else whether it be defense or ballhandling. its been a massive letdown of an acquisition, especially after some people talking themselves into thinking he also represented an on-court improvement to MPJ putting their contracts aside

if we had dumped 1 or 2 FRPs into him for this production, it would have been a colossal whiff

All it cost Denver was a terrible contract, and one FRP, likely to just pay them to take MPJ’s Deal. Cam Johnson was the return in a flat salary dump.

MPJ was a vital player for Denver, not just sum bum salary like Zach Collins was for us. they definitely needed Cam to fill those shoes, and he has been a disappointment

So IF there's expansion and an expansion draft...I could see Wright secretly dangling Fox, and if nothing hits, let him be open for the expansion draft and just walk away? Just spitballing.

Denver HAD to get rid of him. Salary dumps aren’t necessary bad or suboptimal player.

On the Brian Wright topic, going from Tre, Malaki, Blake, Zollins, Jeremy and Sidy to Fox, Harper, Bryant, Luke, Kelly and Mason is a wild upgrade. Like generational single season rebuild. From here on out, it's really just rinse and repeat. Draft best player available and add depth and matchup variations through free agency. Maybe the odd trade every 3 seasons or so.

I'll also add that the types of players he's targeting are fitting well together and exhibiting a cohesive chemistry. The cumulative Bball IQ and talent have risen considerably from 15 months ago. BW is elite at this, it would seem.

TBH Denver would probably be in a better position right now with that Salary and the better player attached. MPJ is not a bad player.

He’s not a bad player, he was just a pretty clear #3 making border line #1 money this year and next.

I actually wondered about this, too. Depending on timing, and what our contract monetary needs are, an expansion draft could be a very strategic opportunity to dump some salary for a young team that needs to pay some folks.

Looking at historical expansion drafts, teams have tended to gravitate away from older, large contract stars in the expansion draft - probably because they realize they aren't going to win right away. So in that vein, someone like Vassell (younger, cheaper, but still eats up a lot of salary towards the floor) might be more attractive... but we're also a long ways off from the draft so who knows what our roster even looks like by then.

Someone who can play lots of minutes and bring some style and substance to the team, and more importantly, the box office.

In 1980, the Mavs took Austin Carr, former #1 overall, while mainly taking former first round picks with one or two years in the league. They then sold Carr to the Bullets.

Wikipedia says: "The most recent additions were the Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat (1988), the Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic (1989), the Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies (1995; the latter relocated to Memphis in 2001), and the New Orleans Hornets (2002; now called the Pelicans).

Each team probably had their own strategy. Vancouver's was blown up by Stevie Franchise refusing to play there, if drafted, which probably fueled their move to Memphis.

It's real funny to have watched the Overton window shift in real time with regards to the FO and the Spurs in general. Many comments made today about the team would've gotten you labeled a sniffer and homer etc just a few years ago, despite remaining exactly the same. The team is certainly over-achieving even the most optimistic predictions, but this season wasn't really a surprise to anyone who was paying attention and wasn't biased against PATFO, tbh.

Wright has assembled a very cohesive, likeable, and upside-filled group of young guys, that's not luck nor chance. Shame that Sochan couldn't fit, but Carter seems to have already replaced him seamlessly, a testament to the pipeline. Great spot to be in.

He should also be commended for trusting a rookie HC with the job - a coach who has the team playing like a contender, and is getting to coach the All-Star Game as a result. That took some balls and was heavily criticized at the time - not so much now (save for Wemby's minutes :st-lol:).
I think the veteran coaching staff they hired helped a lot you need that with a young coach as he learns Sweeney was a good hire and i remember a lot of people were happy he was added to the staff

I saw someone post about Sean Sweeney on ST saying that the Spurs should hire him, and then I watched a coaching clinic video (can't remember which one, would have to look it up again) and agreed he'd be an awesome hire for the Spurs. I was quite surprised when the Spurs actually hired him a few months later. I thought it was just fan speculation on a message board, and it was pretty amazing that they were actually looking at him and eventually came to a deal with him.
