Not having a topic for him is kind of embarrassing, tbh.
In the era where at least half the front offices are incompetent and actively sabotaging their team's success, we've managed to stay on a steady course and the passing of the torch from RC to Wright was seamless.
We went over it many times at ST, it was obvious Brian wasn't really allowed to do what he wanted because Pop had to keep competing. But once the wheels fell off, we've done really well other than the 2022 draft failure.
Right now Spurs have arguably the best supporting cast in the league.
Take away the franchise player from each team and Spurs are the best team in the league.
Take away both the first and the second option and it's not even close.
How did Wright get us here?
Devin and Keldon were drafted a long time ago by modern NBA standards and have been heavily criticized over the years, rightfully so. Their contracts were an overpay for what they were producing, but they're showing why they got drafted now that they're finally in a winning environment.
Champ was claimed off waivers and is providing great value for next to no money.
Barnes is our steady veteran that leads by example when it comes to off the court stuff and we got paid to take him.
Fox was a complete fleece, got him for a salary dump, one FRP that wouldn't have conveyed, one bad FRP and a random FRP that's really long away.
Kornet is arguably the best free agency signing this season, none of this would've been possible without him because last season we completely crumbled whenever Wemby wasn't on the floor.
Castle looks like a star in the making, one of the two good players in a really bad draft. We got lucky that he was available at #4, but many teams would've passed on him because of his limited role in college and would've taken an upside swing.
There's also DJG who would've been in the rotation for any other team, dominating G-league and showing potential in the minutes he got this season.
Wrote about the future picks in the future assets topic, in short we have a FRP in every draft and other than 2029 all of them have swaps attached which means we'll be moving up if healthy.
Cap situation is great and we'll have just one critical season of potential luxury tax in 29-30.
The future is both bright and Wright, the only thing that's out of our hands is Wemby's health. But the Spurs are doing everything possible to keep that in check.
Before this season we were still in Wemby-dependant territory where everything would crumble if he got injured, but now we're looking at a team that's great even without him. He'll be the difference maker between Spurs being a contender and the best team in the league for years to come.

that's assuming everything goes his way. If he ends up as an elite role player I'll be thrilled tbh.
