Raiders investing in OL for Mendoza.
FFS the Ravens have had huge OLine issues.
OTOH the Raiders gave him the largest contract for a Center by far.

Franchise tagging Linderbaum would have been the Ravens answer imo.

Love the Linderbaum overpay
Instead of De Costa being passive aggressive or flat out dumbfuckery like in many previous do-nothing years, wow the highest paid Center by far and 80% guaranteed. Not sure I'm down on the Ravens for this one.

Guess we shall see how Linderbaum comes back from injury / who Baltimore suits up under the QB.
Rebuilder extraordinaire Marty Shottenheimer (3Xs) would always make beefing up the OLine a priority.
Noooo arguing with his regular season results.

Gonna wait to see what else comes out. But this feels like some bush league shit from the Ravens tbh.

Yeah, bush league move by the Ravens.

Going to be real interesting to see how Crosby and Hendrickson play this season.
Linderbaum too.

If they signed Hendrickson right off the bat then I'd have no problems with it. Cheaper and doesn't cost first rounders, totally get it.

But to get cold feet and use the physical as a way to back out of the agreement and lower Crosby's trade value is bush, absolute bush league move by the Ravens FO.

I'm pretty damn salty about it tbh :st-lol:

i never wanted to trade Maxx

and look i get the appeal. he turns 29 over the summer, coming off injury. get 2 first round picks (including #14 this year) to help a rebuild. i get the case for it.

but... there's a limit to just how much an NFL team can affoard to offload talent. our defense has been in a sad state for years now, and the only reason we have been a bad defense but not historically inept is because of Crosby. on a dead team that had no chance of winning, Maxx was always out there playing with his hair on fire, playing 100% of the snaps (unheard of for an edge player). always getting teammates pumped after every big play.

the epitome of a "heart and soul" player. its like if keldon johnson was also an all-nba player, there is no world where you make that trade short of a public demand from the player. if you traded crosby, the team not only lacks any A+ talent on defense, but also loses any morale, or any sense of leadership. who would have stepped up to be "the guy" in the locker room? goody two-shoes rookie Mendoza? probably not... not yet at least.

i think the team badly needs a Maxx, the same way the raiders rebuilding a decade ago absolutely needed Charles Woodson for those last 3 years. now Woodson was an old vet playing on a cheaper deal, but there was no obvious version of this to replace what Maxx gives.

setting that aside, we have Crosby locked into a long term deal. he got his new contract just a year ago, and we wisely frontloaded a lot of the new money into last year's cap sheet. he is under contract for 4 seasons, with cap hits of 36, 30, 27, 28. as long as his play doesnt fall off a cliff, after this season, he will be on very team friendly numbers and basically no dead money built into future years.

its still incredibly fucked up that the raiders entered into multiple transactions under the assumption Crosby was off the books, but they have gone ahead and honored all those agreements anyway, because Mark Davis, as inept as he could be, is ultimately a good guy and all the players love him for it. i dont think there was a need to re-sign koonce and acquire Kwity Paye if we knew we had Maxx.

the linberbaum signing has the potential to be the next iteration of the Rodney Hudson acquisition from back in the day. 3 of our starters should be Kolton Miller, JPJ, and Linderbaum, but we need another guard and tackle. Meredith should not be a starter. Same with Parham, who is already gone anyway. and DJ Glaze seems like serviceable depth but not a starting caliber tackle.

we did draft a guard and tackle in the 3rd round last year, but cant really bank on them as unknowns. hope to see them draft at least one more guard and one more tackle in the first half of the draft.

they also gotta make sure they have the nose tackle gig figured out. JJ Pegues is a big dude, looked nice in preseason, but barely got on the field last year, so i doubt they will trust him right away. i dont know if adam butler or thomas booker are big/strong enough to be traditional 3-4 nose tackles. we have plenty of guys who seem like they should thrive as 3-4 ends, though.

secondary still needs work as well

Looks like Miami got a 1st, 3rd and 4th round swap for Waddle. Seems kinda high. Miami gonna definitely go WR in Rounds 1 or 2 tbh.

NFL saying eff-you to all leagues by starting season on a Wednesday.
