Wrote about it after the game last night.
If we don't snap out of this slump, we're in for some bad Ls until Wemby returns.

The general opinion in here was that we'll be fine because even though we don't have elite shooters, we have enough solid ones, but as it turns out Devin got injured and everyone else decided they'll have their annual slump at the same time.
Fox enabled our offense to be functional with his unexpected 40% shooting up until Christmas, but if he's not hitting his shots, we're kind of fucked with our guard rotation since Castle and Harper are certified bricklayers.

This stinking stretch got to be a record in Spurs history tbh. :st-lol:

MATFO need to get either a priest for cleansing or a sport psychologist for counselling

Julian's would be pathetic too if it wasn't for that 11/17 game.

I know it's cliche to say "they just lost because they missed shots"...but this is a whole lotta shot missin'.

Due to a combination of regression to the mean and fatigue from the recent schedule.

They can barely make it work spacing wise when healthy, but that's a rarity nowadays and the lack of shooting on the deep bench is a major issue and something that needs to be rectified sooner than later or they're going to continue to struggle with Vassell out.

Most of these have been pretty wide open too (at least in NBA terms). Rough.

Yea that's pretty brutal. Not gonna win many games in the modern NBA shooting it that poorly. Weird/unfortunate that literally everyone is struggling at the same time too tbh. It's contagious right now.

That's simply atrocious when you remove Champs NYK game . When it's one or even two players you can explain it, but the entire team is rough. Easy to fall into the "everyone is in a slump" camp but surely this is a sign of poor ball movement, offensive sets, etc. Something for Mitch and the coaching staff to take very seriously.

Would be curious to see how many of these were "open looks" to verify that statement, if any stat heads know how/where to get that

easy to defend the Spurs, just pack the paint and dare them to shoot. You prevent Castle and Harper's drives and Wemby's interior game and there is pretty much nothing left in the Spurs offense, you have Fox drive to the FT line with a jumper

Watching games on TV, I swear sometimes it feels like the baskets in FBC must be a millimeter out of alignment, but there is nothing in the stats that support this. Admittedly I'm not putting effort trying to chase this down because there is probably nothing to see here.

Over the past five games, opponents are shooting a nearly unfathomable 54.7% from 3-point range against the Spurs in the first quarter – the highest in the NBA during that span.

Overall, the past five foes have connected on 57.1% of their total first-quarter field goals against the Spurs. Only Philadelphia is giving up a higher percentage during that stretch.

“If we continue to guard how we've guarded at the start of games, I think teams will continue to shoot like that,” Johnson said. “It's been enough of a sample size in the recent part of games that I don't think it's an outlier.”

Hopefully we see a renewed sense of defensive intensity to start out the game tomorrow. Edey and Coward are out, so they can't hurt us... Ty Jerome is the kind of dude who we like to let beat us, and he's out too thankfully. Would appreciate if Ja and Vince Williams would also decide to be out tomorrow :st-lol:

If only there was someone whose job it was to figure out a better way to guard at the start of games.
