Maybe this was actually announced before and I missed it?

3 team round robin tournament... 2 USA teams, 1 World team, 8 players per squad.

I like the format, but odd they would pre-determine there will be 16 American players and 8 European stars to make the ASG.

They kind of did this last year anyway since Chuck's team was all the international players anyway. But better to just call it out.

Will this make the ASG more entertaining (I'm guessing probably not)

God this is so fucking stupid. If they were going to do USA vs World, fine. But this multiple team tournament shit is lame af imho

2 USA teams? Considering the top tier of the NBA is mostly foreign born talent these days I'd expect watering the USA top players down to two teams will spell doom for them.

The all star game is just a joke all around at this point.

Is Embiid ever going to play again? Dudes knees are cooked
Gonna be wild to watch PHI have $110-120MM/yr of salary on their books that isn't on the court for the next 3 years.

Morey more cooked than Embiid's knees.

A weekend I can spend drinking minus the stress of watching basketball

They should have done it NHL style, North America vs. everyone else.

*shrug* it’s basically the same as last year, minus the g league/rookie team.

NBA v World. one game. 2 twelve man teams. It's not that hard. and don't spend half the night gargling the nuts of a tv network.

They shouldn't change or commit to any formats until the players are chosen. If the top 8 players voted in are foreign-born... then they are forced to only select American players after that?

If only the NBA had the money and resources to figure this out......
Predetermining the number of players for US/International teams is pretty stupid. Will voting be for 3 US and 2 International players per squad?

Side note: I'm not used to seeing my posts propagate immediately. It's like magic!

As long as the players don't care, the all-star game will be irrelevant regardless of what the league comes up with.
And I don't see the players caring anytime soon.

It worked for the NHL because there has always been this huge hockey rivalry between the US and Canada (well Russia before they are banned from the Olympics), and then the tariff thing came JUST before that all star weekend and all hell just broke loose. Add in the drama of the Tkachuk brothers and it was the perfect storm. The players were going at it to win a rather meaningless game really for national pride.

For basketball, US has historically dominated the rest of the world in all kinds of competition, even when they were sending their B or even C teams back in the day, international means nobody is really affiliated with the team other than player fans. The players have absolutely nothing to play for, there is no pride whatsoever on the line. It's not even a high level game at the Y anymore, players are making it one long warmup line.

Doesn't matter what formats they keep throwing out there. No one, besides Wemby, actually cares about putting in the effort to give the fans a good show.
ASG is dead. It is what it is.
