I've been finding it difficult to get hyped up for the upcoming season. If prop B does not pass in November, will it be the beginning of the end of Spurs basketball in San Antonio? I see so much misinformation floating around regarding the funds for this project. Folks do not believe city officials or the Spurs that local tax payers will NOT pay for the new arena. Unless you rent a car and stay in a motel/hotel, you will not be paying for this project. From my understanding, taxpayers WILL pay for additional infrastructure projects near the arena, post construction, but those projects will go to vote as well. I'm curious to see if any local Spurs fans on here are opposed to the project and why.

They won't leave. If the big ass bill doesn't get passed, another one will pop up soon enough, probably more scaled down. Either way, the place where they play now isn't the future. There's a reason why there hasn't been an ASW hosted by SA in 30 years.

Yeah, the main reason is that the ASG is during Rodeo. Literally impossible to do one here.

It will get approved eventually even if it fails in November. Just gotta make sure all of us that care get out and vote

The mayor really tried to walk the line of appealing to her left base, but he didn't have the political skill or deftness to pull off. tbh it was a fine line to walk; a seasoned city insider would have had a hard time doing it. I voted for her but damn, she has egg on her face. I think it will be a close vote but likely to pass.

I will definitely vote for this. I’ve lived in this city my entire life and it would be amazing to get something like this added to the city.

Wow, seriously? It's been the exact opposite for me - has felt like a damn long off-season! Stadium stuff aside, I'm hyped we'll be seeing Wemby play real basketball very soon.

As for the stadium stuff... I just can't see the project failing to pass once the money's on the line. I can only hope San Antonio remains fully aware that the Spurs are their only pro sports team, and would not blockade the project from passing, especially not so at such a promising time for the team itself.

But then again, I remember thinking the same thing about these last Trump elections, and Americans let me down. So we'll see.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ready for Spurs basketball, especially with the improvements we've made to the roster. I'm expecting a return to the playoffs this year assuming we stay healthy. And yeah, it's San Antonio, who knows what can happen. We can't afford another AT&T situation being one of the fastest growing cities in the US. Cheers to a playoff run this year though!

Yeah I think I'm more excited about this season than even Victor's rookie year. So much young talent on this team plus a star in his prime in Fox. Some real holes on the roster that'll keep them from being any kind of contenders until those are plugged but this should be a hell of an exciting team with some pretty ridiculous long term upside. Damn if the Spurs can make Fox, Castle, and Harper work together we could be looking at a really nice run on par with what OKC is pulling off.

I was just downtown today, it needs a remodeling for sure. The amount of construction around this city is absurd though, however many years it takes to build this project is going to be rough. I hope it gets approved though.

Spurs will move at some point if we don't get a new stadium. Project Marvel is an investment in the city and the Spurs.

This new mayor is horrible. Quicker we can get rid of her, the better.

I love the Spurs, of course, but I'm also voting out of spite for Gina Jones. She's going to suck the big one of Project Marvel.

GOJ has her own agenda, but it’s all about her, not Democrats. SA is a Democrat city, and has.never balked at passing even things that were dumb, like the AlamoDome. She revealed herself when she showed up to the event that she wasn’t invited to, and spoke. She is a covert narcissist.

I don't want to be taxed even more but I'm same of mind with you. Suck a big one Gina COMMIE Jones!

I've read a little presentations pdfs published this summer and what surprised me is the size of what Spurs are building around the new arena.

They called it "mixed-use district" and it's huge:
- 1920 residential units
- 2 hotels
- 220,000 sq ft of offices
- 95,000 sq ft of restaurants/shops

Spurs are likely willing to spend quite a lot of money on the arena not only because they will have all the revenues coming from its use but also because of all they could build around it. Public money will be used to make that place attractive for them with improve roads and the coverage of I-37.

Former Bexar County resident here. I lived in SA during the Alamodome debates and am curious from current residents if you guys think this will pass. I’m fairly confident if they dont build a new one, it may be the end of professional sports in SA.

I know there has been a ton of disappointment and anger about the complete lack of development around the Frost Bank Center but there are a couple of key differences here.

First, I didn't see a lot of businesses make the effort to open anything there and you can't force them too. I recall seeing a couple of small bars open initially but nothing that served as a collective draw. No draw, no traffic, no development. In this case, the development and infrastructure is being built at the same time as the arena. At that point, you're looking for tenants, not counting on private entities to build from the ground up.

And second, there is no "if you build it, they will come" guarantee. The FBC is a dead zone and you can't force people to visit that area of the city. It's just far enough out to be inconvenient. If you provide transportation in and out of Project Marvel to the rest of the downtown area, you have tons of tourists that have the potential to visit. And with them helping inject life into the area, I think you'll see more citizens making the trek.

Success is never guaranteed but if you could get destination tenants like House of Blues, Tommy Bahama, some random country star honky tonk, and maybe well known tourist attractions like Museum of Illusions or similar, then I think you can find success.

I'm fully expecting this vote to fail even though it's about as good as you're going to get on an arena deal in a city that's not LA, SF, NYC, or Chicago who can tell teams to go fuck off and move if we don't gift you a new arena since no one is leaving those markets. It took a title to get the FBC Center and attendance has been pretty crap for years so guessing the voters aren't going to get behind it.
