SPURS PULL ONE OUT IN BOSTON, IMPROVE TO 27-11
1768158485198.webp

Scott's Notes:
  • I was quite surprised we pulled this one out - our offense continues to look like garbage. Very little organization and even less shooting. Individual might from Wemby, Fox and Keldon pulled this one out on the offense end, but it was good team defense against what was the top offensive team in the league by ORTG. We still gave up 16 threes, but many of them were well contested and just great shots. We did give up some uncontested looks from 3 particularly against Luka Garza when he was being guarded by Wemby... I think we need to keep an eye out on this as we face teams with opposing bigs who can shoot, as Wemby's tendency is to sag off to patrol the paint.
  • At one point in the game thread I commented that it was Keldon's worst game of the season, and I think that was fair criticism at the time... he must have felt my energy, because from that exact moment he was amazing and willed us to victory
  • Champ's shot was off, but he's showing he's more than just a spot up shooter. Another double double, and he's up to 4th on the team in TRB/36 and REB% (behind Wemby, Keldon and Luke in both). Others have said it, but I'll echo it here... Champ needs to stay a starter when Devin returns. I suspect Devin will start off the bench (since that's what we did with Wemby, though it's not what we did with Castle or Fox), but eventually Champ should be taking Barnes spot unless Barnes snaps out of this thing with haste.
  • Victor was just spectacular in the 4th. Reminded me a lot of the CHI game where just decided we are not losing today
  • Fox's 3pt shot still isn't back, but he was fantastic all night and played the kind of game I'm hoping will break him out of the slump he's been in. The mid-range was pure last night, love to see it.
  • Shout out to Mitch. He saw Sochan wasn't the right guy for this game and he quickly went away from it. He also saw how poorly Castle was playing and put him on the bench at the end. We have enough talent that Mitch shouldn't be afraid to mix up the closing lineups when guys aren't playing well (or other guys are playing well).
What You Said:
  • @mazerrackham - surely this terrible shooting will turn around eventually, right? ......riiiiiight?
  • @NotoriousHOP - Wemby, 26 mins. Nice. Castle, outta gas. All shots short. Harper, Rookie Wall is real. Champ, rebounding and clutch shots. Swipa, clutch late game steal. KJ, holding the team together.
  • @Mugen - Mitch won us the game. Benched Castle, great timeout to bring in Wemby and pulled out the double big lineup to throw the Cs off the last few minutes.
  • @Guru of Nothing - And a 1 for all the Chicken Little's in the game thread.
  • @Correct Crusader - Yeah Wemby is the best player in the world.
  • @heyheymymy - Great experience to get the W against a top team like Boston. Mitch managed the end game circumstances quite well.
  • @spurs10 - Needed this win and it seemed like it might not happen. However when Wemby is on your team, seems you always have a chance. Fox made a lot of shots, when he wasn't shooting the 3. And Champs boards were huge especially in the end. GSG!! Get some sleep!!
  • @Rafa - Will the spurs ever hit over 33% on 3s again, will the minutes restriction ever f*** off, will Mitch ever teach the team a single play to run, will we ever not get f*** by scrubs because of our disjointed perimeter D, wins a win though GSG
  • @LeBowen - I didn't think we played that bad, it's just that it's impossible to get the offense flowing when 3pt shots aren't falling, with most misses being fairly open.
Next up... second leg of a back to back against MIN! GSG
